Chichen Itza

Normally when you think of visiting Mexico – your mind drifts to Cancun or maybe Cabo. We got an opportunity to visit another part of Mexico – Mexico City. I have to admit – I had no idea what to expect. On this trip – we got to see actual Mexico City ( you’ll see more pics below) but we also got to see Chichen Itza. In my naivety, I didn’t realize Mexico had pyramids. I mean yes we knew there were things like the Mayan ruins but when you think pyramids – you immediately think of Egypt and the 3 pyramids at Giza.  So off we went, we scheduled a tour and did a half day walk around Chichen Itza – and it was beautiful.

It was really amazing to see artwork that had been drawn ages ago by civilizations long ago.

Downtown Mexico City

Perhaps more surprising than finding pyramids in Mexico – was learning how Mexico City was less “Americanized” than Cancun. A lot of the cars were american, but I was surprised to see european style cafés. We took a few walks around town and caught some nice shots that gave a good feel of the downtown area.

During our walk through the city – we saw some really unique statues. I have no idea of their meaning but they were pretty cool to see.
